How to Help Friendship Team
Spring 2003
This March
we had a privilege of sending a Friendship Team to orphanages in Lanzhou and
Xining. Team members, Martin and Sharon Mallory and David and Carol Carr, provided
assistance in training of the Chinese orphanage staff.
This is
the testimony of Martin and Sharon Mallory:

“Thank
you for giving us the opportunity to participate on your first medical/therapy-oriented
Friendship Team. Our experience in China was
more than we could ever have hoped for, and one that has enriched us greatly.
By now you have heard all the highlights of our trip through conversations with
David and Carol. We would like to take this opportunity to share with
you the things we treasure most about our experience.
The
first thing we tell people when we talk about our time in China is that Mr.
Bi made the trip! He was the perfect person to lead us through an unknown
land and culture…His connections opened doors of opportunity for us that we
never dreamed possible. His characteristic refrain of "no problem"
was only one of the things that allowed us to truly enjoy, and feel safe
and at ease in an unfamiliar country thousands of miles from home.

Another
aspect that I (Sharon) treasure is having had the opportunity to share from
my experience as a pediatric therapist with others who seemed genuinely eager
to hear what we had to offer. It was truly gratifying to finish our work
at the orphanages feeling as though we had earned their trust and made new friends.
Bridging the gap between the language and cultural differences was a thrill
to me. Of course, Mr. Bi's role in all of this cannot be overstated.
He became an expert in pediatric therapy in a week's time! It's our prayer
that the seeds the Lord planted will bear much fruit in the Kingdom, and further
the mission and ministry of AHH in China.
A bonus for
us was the opportunity to meet some of our brothers and sisters in Christ.
Again, this was Mr. Bi's doing. It was exciting to see how God is advancing
His Kingdom in China. In addition, the opportunity we had to converse
with a class of English students at a University in Beijing was another
welcome surprise. (Mr. Bi's connections at work again)
We
are left with a deep sense of gratitude for having had the opportunity to minister
the love of Christ in China under the auspices of AHH. Equally strong
is our longing to one day return. Thank you again for facilitating such
a wonderful experience.
Sincerely,
Martin and
Sharon Mallory"
