Our journey began much like others, desperately wanting a child, years of infertility treatments, broken dreams and tears but, by Gods grace, it didn't end there. In 2001, a college friend, who had just returned from China with a new baby girl, contacted me. My heart melted. I could hear God speaking to me and telling me this is the path to take. Almost everyday after, he gave me signs that pointed to China. I was sure that this is what I had to do. What I wasn't sure about, however, was how to approach my husband about the idea. He is nine years my senior, had already raised a son as a single parent and was a little hesitant about taking on the responsibility of a little girl. It didn't take long for God to convince him that someone in China needed us and we needed her. With the help of A Helping Hand staff we completed our paperwork and waited patiently through the delays and confusion caused by the 9-11 tragedy and the SARS epidemic. Finally, the referral came and it was love at first sight. This was our child! We boarded the plane for China on MOTHER's DAY 2003. Our prayers were answered on May 14, 2003, as a beautiful, black haired little girl, named You Min was placed into our arms. We were told You Min meant -Beautiful Jade- and that she was from Hunan. Her name seemed to fit her perfectly. She was beautiful. We are often told how lucky Abigail is but we always respond with the same sentence. No, we are the lucky ones. In truth, there is no luck involved here, just the pure love of God.
