Recently our family was privileged to take part in an "Adoption Sunday" service at a local church. While Cindy and I were honored to speak, the greatest blessing was to see families who have adopted children, as well as those who are in process. It was a heartening reminder of why we are here: changing the lives of children one home at a time. I hope you will feel that same encouragement from this issue of Touch Point. It is our effort to keep you informed about what is happening at AHH, and to celebrate together the faithfulness and blessings of God. Happy reading!

Thoughts on a Biblical View of Adoption

"Good morning. I’m Cindy Brewer and I’m adopted. And if you are a Christian, if Jesus is your Savior, then so are you."

The following article is taken from a message given by Cindy Brewer at the Bluebank Church of God in Morehead, Kentucky, at a "Celebrating Adoption" service on January 29, 2006.

Above, Cindy and the Brewers' five daughters (l to r) Anna Mei, Faith, Jillian, Elizabeth and Joy.

Texas Branch Office Open for 9 Months

Hello AHH Family (or maybe I should say Howdy Ya’ll!) Since June 1, 2005, I have been working with A Helping Hand to develop a presence in Texas. We opened the office in Irving, Texas, which is in the heart of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.

Happy Feet Dance: February 25

6th Annual Dance is a 50's Bash!

The 6th annual Happy Feet Dance is scheduled for Saturday, February 25, from 4-7 pm at the Macedonia Christian Church in Lexington. What started out as a "dress-up" party for fathers and daughters has become a themed event for the whole family. This year, children and adults will "rock around the clock" to music and decorations that celebrates the 50's. In addition to dancing to the oldies from our in-house DJ, Jonathan Scott, there will be food and prizes. Come in a 50's costume or dressed for the prom--it's going to be a night to remember! Be sure to check out the next issue of "Touch Point" for pictures from the big night! For registration information, volunteer sign-ups or a map to the church, click here. Once again, this year's Happy Feet Dance is coordinated by AHH parent Jennifer Spaulding. Help is needed to set up, staff registration and food areas, and clean up.

Angel in Adoption

AHH Family Receives Congressional Award
Angel

Dan and Susie Roberts have a passion for children. Recently, that passion received national recognition as the Roberts were selected for an "Angel In Adoption" award by the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute. Each year, members of Congress select individuals, families or organizations from their home states that have "demonstrated a commitment to improving the lives of children in need of permanent loving homes." Each year, winners from all 50 states and the District of Columbia are honored at a gala dinner in Washington, DC.

Like many couples, Dan and Susie married young and were blessed with three biological children, Emily (25), Danny (23), and Joseph (18). They also suffered the loss of five babies. About six years ago, Isabelle (now 7) joined the family. Later, Lily and Hannah (also now 7) arrived, followed by Faith (6) and Annabeth (4). All the girls are from China.

While Dan works second shift to support the family, Susie homeschools and has a ministry of intercessory prayer, counseling and encouragement to many people.

So, is the family complete? The Roberts' just smile. "We're praying about another child--a son-- from the Special Needs list," says Susie. You can't help but feel that for some precious boy, an angel is most certainly on the way.
